All Together Now! for mental health care not corporate breaks

Events taking place across Canada placing the demand for increased investment in mental health care services against government planned corporate tax cuts.

Ottawa (22 Feb. 2011) – Planning is well underway for a series of days of action taking place across Canada from February 28 to March 6, 2011 as part of the National Union of Public and General Employee's (NUPGE) All Together Now! campaign.

The Days of Action will highlight the growing public demand for increased resources for mental health services at a time when governments are choosing to cut corporate taxes even further.

James Clancy, national president of the 340,000 member NUPGE says that this is the first of what will be a series of Days of Action.

“For our first Days of Action, we identified the theme of 'No more corporate tax cuts. We want more resources for mental health services'.”

“In dozens of communities across Canada, we will be standing up for Canadians and against corporate tax cuts. Our collective voice will be loud and powerful!”

Activists are planning a wide range of activities.

“We have everything from a panel discussion and t-shirt day in PEI, a community leaflet drop is being planned in Saskatchewan, postcard campaigns being launched in Ontario, public awareness advertising campaigns in British Columbia as well as activists being mobilized to attend a conference in Nova Scotia,” said Clancy.

“In Manitoba they are planning to conduct a facebook rally, Alberta is supporting a community theater production and conducting an educational with the Edmonton Labour Council. And there is more being planned every day.”
