Events across the country challenged governments to act for mental health - UPDATED

Ottawa (11 Mar. 2011) - Participants in the first days of action of the All Together Now! campaign report receiving overwhelming messages of support from Canadians.

“I have heard from activists and our Champions 4 Change that people across the country want to see more resources invested in mental health services,” said James Clancy, national president of the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE).

“Canadians are saying enough of the corporate tax cuts and demanding that money be put into meeting the needs of people.”

Clancy said that “for our first Days of Action, we identified the theme of 'No more corporate tax cuts. We want more resources for mental health services'.”

Wide range of activities

A wide range of events were held during the week of February 28 to March 6, including traditional rallies, leafleting, public meetings and a Facebook rally.

A couple of highlights included major public events in Prince Edward Island, Ontario and Saskatchewan.

The All Together Now! campaign is currently preparing for the next Days of Action which will be town hall meetings on tax fairness.
