Moosehead lock out ends for NBUPPE members

“The deal is good for the employees, the company and the economy of Saint John,” stated Tom Mann, NBUPPE Executive Director.

Saint John (31 Mar. 2011) - Members of the New Brunswick Union of Public and Private Employees (NBUPPE/NUPGE) Local 362 approved a new collective agreement, ending a five-week lock out by Moosehead Breweries Ltd.

“Our resolve for a fair and just offer has paid off for our members. We always wanted the Company to be successful,” stated Local 362 President Jeff Stoddard after the ballots were counted.

The new seven-yNBU logo with Moosehead beer bottleear agreement provides for labour stability over the duration of the agreement. It maintains the benefits for retired members as well as the defined benefit pension plan. A new retirement savings plan with mandatory joint employee/employer contributions for all employees will be instituted and members will receive modest salary increases of between 6.5% and 7.5% over the duration of the contract. The parties also agreed to over 70 language and operation changes in the contract.

Despite the lock out, union members continued to endorse Moosehead beer. "Drink it, we make a great product," local vice president Luke Coleman said earlier this month.

“The Members of Local 362 and Moosehead Brewery have been engaged in a long term relationship that has and will continue to benefit the company and the employees and their families for a foreseeable long term future. The deal is good for the employees, the company and the economy of Saint John,” stated Tom Mann, NBUPPE Executive Director.
