Halifax (31 Mar. 2011) - Members of the Nova Scotia General Employees' Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) reached a tentative collective agreement with their employer, Capital District Health Authority (CDHA).
“We are very pleased to have reached this agreement,” says Joan Jessome, NSGEU president. “There was an amazing amount of skill and solidarity shown by the chief negotiators and the Local’s bargaining committee at the negotiation table in order to reach this agreement. This is the way collective bargaining works.”
No details will be released about the agreement until members of the Local have received information packages and have had an opportunity to vote on the tentative agreement themselves. Information sessions are currently being scheduled for April 4-8.
"We are encouraging all members to check our NSGEU website towards the end of this week for dates, times and locations of the information sessions,” says Jessome.
The 3,880 members of NSGEU Local 42 who provide quality health care to Nova Scotians include more than 170 classifications including Medical Laboratory Technologists, Licensed Practical Nurses, Social Workers, Respiratory Therapists, Clinical Dietitians, Paramedics, Pharmacists, Recreation Therapists, Ward Aids, Patient Attendants, Operating Room Technicians, Sterile Processing Technicians and Diagnostic Imaging classifications which include MRI Technologists, Nuclear Medicine Technologists and more.
