NAPE convention delegates celebrate union's 75th anniversary

NAPE members celebrate the union's history and plan for the future.

St.John's (16 June 2011) - Over 500 public and private sector workers from across the province will gather at the Sheraton Hotel in St. John’s this week for the 19th Biennial Convention of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE/NUPGE). The convention will also serve as a celebration of the union’s 75th anniversary.

NAPE President, Carol Furlong says, “Our 75th anniversary is a time to celebrate our long list of accomplishments. Biennial Convention is the perfect venue to pay tribute to those who have built and strengthened our union during the past 75 years.”

Beginning on June 16, the three-day convention will set the direction and pass the budget for the union, which represents over 25,000 workers in Newfoundland and Labrador. It will also serve as a platform for delegates to reflect on the union’s activities, achievements, and challenges since the last convention in 2009.

Highlights of convention will include the President's address, a brief history of the union, the Secretary-Treasurer's report and an honoured guest speaker and Holocaust survivor, Dr. Philip Riteman on Friday, June 18.
