Read Art Macklin's letter to better understand why we need to stop the dismantling of the Canadian Wheat Board.
Ottawa (18 Nov. 2011) - Art Macklin is a farmer from Grande Prairie, Alberta. He, his wife Donna and youngest son Nathan operate a family farm in the Peace River Country of northwestern Alberta. Art and his brother, sister-in-law and sister homesteaded the land in the mid sixties and developed the farm from the original forest. Grains, oilseeds, forages, pedigreed seed, pulses, specialty crops and beef cattle are produced on the 1600 acres under cultivation. Art is active in his community and has been a founding director on the board of two local cooperatives.
He is a past president of the Canadian National Farmers Union and was elected by the farmers in his area for three, four-year terms to the former Advisory Committee to the Canadian Wheat Board won which he served as Chairman. He served two terms on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Wheat Board and was also the Chairman of the Canadian International Grains Institute.
Art Macklin allows us to understand what a significant a blow the destruction of the Canadian Wheat Board would be to the environment, the farm community and farmers and families across the country.
