Bargaining commences for OPSEU college academic members

Community college academic members begin face-to-face negotiations.

Toronto (07 June 2012) - Bargaining for academic members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) at community colleges met with the employer on June 4 to start negotiations toward a collective agreement.

Members have already participated in a pre-bargaining demand setting exercises and delegates have prioritized the final provincial demands considering variables such as attainability, reasonableness, level of member support, cost, past rounds of bargaining, bargaining unit principles, union principles, future level of member support, public response and what other bargaining units have achieved.

The union has prepared a public relations campaign (including print and social media) to support the bargaining committee's message and communications during bargaining. Throughout bargaining the team will have access to legal counsel, campaign and communications specialists, research assistance and office support.

The bargaining committee has worked very hard to set out reasonable proposals given the bargaining climate in the province and the employer's capacity.Members look forward to a productive round of negotiations.
