HSAA members employed by Stettler EMS reach a tentative agreement

HSAA EMS members negotiate new working conditions.

Health Sciences Association of Alberta logoEdmonton (3 Jan. 2012) - A tentative agreement was reached for members of the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA/NUPGE) employed by Stettler Emergency Medical Services (EMS) following two days of mediation in December. 

Highlights of the new two-year agreement includes a wage increase of 2.7 per cent, increased employer-paid benefits, increased weekend and active duty premiums, increased special leave allotment, a $50 boot allowance increase to $200 as well as positive changes to the duty incurred expenses language. In addition, new rest language has been negotiated for work assignments in excess of 16 hours per tour of duty including payment of overtime premiums if rest not provided. Casual members will now receive $450 for a health spending account, an increase of $150.  Members will also receive lump sum payments of $500 effective from the date of ratification and $1000 on April 1, 2012. Casuals will also receive lump sums pro-rated for casuals based on regular hours worked from April 1, 2011 to ratification date.

A meeting will be scheduled with the bargaining unit membership early in the New Year to present and discuss the new terms and conditions of this agreement. The bargaining committee is recommending acceptance of the tentative agreement.
