Vancouver (14 Sept. 2012) - After a marathon day of bargaining that went over into the wee hours of the next day, a settlement was reached and approved by the bargaining committee representing members of the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU/NUPGE) employed by Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting Inc.

Members have been locked-out by the employer since August 19.

The settlement provides for a wage increase in each of five years of the agreement, with retro-active pay for the first year, the addition of pay-in-lieu for benefit for members over the age of 65 years, as well as a secured position structure. During the life of the agreement, there will be increases in auxiliary workers pay-in-lieu of benefits, increased meal allowance, vehicle allowance, abnormal conditions allowance and cell phone costs.

BCGEU/NUPGE members will be able to review the full settlement package at the ratification meeting which will be held soon.
