MGEU members ratify new sick leave language

Improved sick leave language saves members short-term disability payments.

Winnipeg (31 Jan. 2013) —Members of the Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE) employed by the Métis Child & Family Services, (including Michif Child & Family Services) and Métis Child & Family Services Authority ratified a new sick leave article in their collective agreement.

The provisions of this sick leave article increase the sick leave cap from 30 to 90 days, eliminating the need for a short-term disability plan.

The new article comes into effect immediately, and the cancellation of the short-term disability plan will come into effect on March 1, 2013.

Cancelling the short-term disability plan will mean cost savings to all members who are paying 100 per cent of the costs associated with the plan.

If you have any questions about this new sick leave article, please contact the MGEU Resource Centre at 1-866-982-6438.
