PEIUPSE members at Gillis Lodge ratify first collective agreement

First contract provides improvements to working conditions and wages.

logo for the Prince Edward Island Union of Public Sector Employees (PEIUPSE/NUPGE)Charlottetown (11 May 2012) - Members of the Prince Edward Island Union of Public Sector Employees (PEIUPSE/NUPGE) employed at Gillis Lodge ratified their first collective agreement after four months of bargaining.

The new 80-member bargaining unit joined the union on April 4, 2011. Negotiations for Gillis Lodge's first collective agreement took place between October 2011 and January 2012 with teams meeting on five separate occasions.

Key issues were pay equity, clarity on vacation, group benefits, overtime and benefits for casual employees.

The Dr. John M. Gillis Memorial Lodge is a community care facilitiy located in Belfast, PEI providing assisted living and nursing care for seniors in the community.
