Biomedical engineering technologists will remain with HSABC

Decision brought down by the B.C. Labour Relations Board

Vancouver (11 Jan. 2005) - Biomedical Engineering Technologists who maintain specialized hospital equipment at acute care hospitals across B.C. will continue to be represented by Health Sciences Association of B.C. (HSABC/NUPGE), a review panel of the B.C. Labour Relations Board has ruled.

The biomedical engineering technologists were designated as paramedical professionals last year, and moved into the Paramedical Professional Bargaining Association collective agreement.

At that time, the Labour Relations Board ruled HSABC should represent the technologists. However, that ruling was appealed by the Hospital Employees’ Union. The board has now upheld the original decision. NUPGE
