Begins three-year term following annual union convention in November
Charlottetown (22 Sept. 2006) - The largest union on Prince Edward Island has elected a new president. Shelley Ward, a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Hillsborough Hospital in Charlottetown, defeated Sandy MacKay, the incumbent president of the P.E.I. Union of Public Sector Employees (PEIUPSE/NUPGE).
James Clancy, president of the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE), welcomed Ward to the national union's leadership team.
"I congratulate Sister Ward for running a solid campaign and I look forward to working with her to deliver results for PEIUPSE members," said Clancy.
Ms. Ward will officially begin her three-year term during the 30-day transition period following the union's annual convention in November.
She currently sits on the Board of Directors as the Co-chair of the Stewards Council. She is also the Co-chair of the Health Care Negotiating Team, a member of the Constitution and Structure Committee and serves as a workplace Steward. NUPGE
