'I am always struck by their dedication, compassion and professionalism.' - James Clancy
Ottawa (5 Nov. 2007) - Child protection workers from across Canada will meet in Ottawa on Nov. 8-9 to discuss a wide range of concerns. All delegates attending are members of the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) and its Components.
"Whenever I meet members who work in this sector I am always struck by their dedication, compassion and professionalism" says James Clancy, NUPGE's national president.
"They face large caseloads comprised of some of the most serious, and occasionally tragic, situations in Canadian society. Despite limited resources and difficult situations they do their very best everyday to support and improve the lives of children, families and communities," Clancy says.
The delegates will discuss a series of challenges facing workers in the sector, including working conditions, caseloads, policy challenges and liability issues. The meeting will also provide an opportunity to develop ideas about how to improve the child protection system in place across the country. NUPGE
