Workers in London and Prince Edward County remain off the job
Toronto (14 August 2007) - Five of seven groups of employees have reached settlements in the protracted strike by developmental services workers in Ontario.
Agreements covering workers in Meaford, Middlesex and Chatham Kent, St. Thomas, Tillsonburg and Central Huron have now been negotiated by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE). The settlement for Central Huron was reached before employees walked out.
Two other groups, in London and Prince Edward County, remain on strike. One of the main sticking points with a several groups has been the inclusion of normally routine back-to-work protocols to protect workers from management reprisals.
“We are frustrated by this lack of progress on what should be a straightforward matter,” says OPSEU president Warren (Smokey) Thomas. “Our members want to get back to work.” NUPGE
