oronto (20 July 2007) - The Ontario AIDS Network has expressed its gratitude to the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) for a donation from its Live and Let Live Fund.
Rick Kennedy, the organization’s executive director, has written to OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas to say thank-you and note the positive impact that such donations have on those suffering from AIDS.
“On behalf of the 47 member agencies of the Ontario AIDS Network, please accept our thanks for the very generous support and commitment of OPSEU’s Live and Let Live Fund to help us fight HIV and AIDS in Ontario," Kennedy writes.
"Your decision to help fight AIDS globally and locally has made a positive difference in many lives both around the world as well as here among your neighbors in Ontario. One hundred per cent of the funds that we have received from OPSEU have been directed to support our Positive Support Fund which assists people with HIV who have emergency financial and health related needs."
More than 24,000 people have the HIV virus in Ontario.
"Your acknowledgement of the existence and tragedy of AIDS in the province also serves as a powerful reminder to younger Ontarians that we have yet to defeat AIDS anywhere," Kennedy told OPSEU.
"The funds we have received from OPSEU have been shared by a common agreement among our 47 membership agencies to provide support throughout the province in the battle against AIDS."
Last year, the network distributed $150,000 in support to people who have HIV and live in greatest need. NUPGE
