NAPE chooses binding arbitration for correctional officers

Union president expects ruling by May 9

St. John's (1 April 2008) - The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE/NUPGE) has opted for binding arbitration to reach a contract agreement affecting some 300 correctional officers across the province.

Union president Carol Furlong says the officers have been without a contract since 2003. The union expects an arbitration ruling by May 9. Salaries and safety items are among the major outstanding issues in the dispute. NUPGE
