Preparing for school board, municipal, provincial and federal elections in British Columbia
Vancouver (8 Jan. 2008) - The Health Sciences Association of B.C. (HSABC/NUPGE) is planning an 'election campaign school' to prepare activists for a dizzying round of elections at all political levels in the coming months.
Besides a federal election, widely expected in the spring or fall of this year, British Columbia will hold municipal and school board elections in November and a provincial election in May 2009.
"If you want to help elect representatives who will support public health care and community social services, or are considering possibly running for elected office yourself, then HSABC’s non-partisan campaign school is for you," the union says on its website.
The school will be held Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at HSABC offices (300 - 5118 Joyce Street, Vancouver). It is aimed at members with "little or no experience in electoral politics."
The goal is to prepare activists for potential roles in all levels of election campaigning. Anyone interested should complete the union's online application form and return it by Jan. 25 (at the latest).
Workshop topics will include:
? The nomination process
? Nomination campaigns
? Overview of election campaigns
? Campaign positions (who does what)
? How to get involved
? How HSA can support members to run or work in elections
"Nomination campaigns and election planning is already underway for all of these elections. Now is the time to find out how you can make a difference in your community," the union says. NUPGE
