'Happy to welcome these members to our union.' - Carol Furlong
St. John's (8 July 2008) - The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE/NUPGE) has been declared the sole bargaining agent for all laboratory and x-ray workers with the Western Regional Health Authority.
This follows an application to the Newfoundland and Labrador Labour Relations Board by the authority to have one bargaining agent established for lab and x-ray workers. Previously, the workers had been represented by both NAPE and CUPE.
“We are very pleased ... and are happy to welcome these members to our union,” says NAPE president Carol Furlong.
NAPE already represents all lab and x-ray workers employed with Eastern Health. Similar applications for a single lab and x-ray bargaining agent have been made by both Central Health and Labrador-Grenfell Health. NAPE currently represents more than 900 laboratory and x-ray professionals throughout the province. NUPGE
