Vancouver (22 October 2008) - BC Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU/NUPGE) members who provide maintenance and property management services for BC government facilities across the province have ratified a new agreement that includes a 15 percent wage increase over four years.
"We are pleased to have achieved a settlement that recognizes the important work our members do in the form of wage increases that address the rising cost of living," says BCGEU president Darryl Walker.
The BCGEU members voted 88 percent in favour of the new contract.
A three percent wage increase is effective in each of the first two years, rising to 4.5 percent in each of the final two years. Additional benefits including extended health and vision care improvements have also been attained.
The new collective agreement expires April 30, 2012.
The 280 members are employed across the province by Brookfield LePage Johnson Controls - Workplace Solutions Inc. under a privatized agreement with the BC government.
