Manitoba Community Workers Accept New Agreement

Earlier this summer, the bargaining committee representing Manitoba Government Community Workers, members of the Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE), reached a tentative deal with Manitoba government representatives on a new contract.

Winnipeg (28 Aug. 2008) - For the first few weeks of August, members (commonly known as Direct Service Workers and Child Development Workers) were asked to review details on the deal and cast their ballots in acceptance or rejection of the tentative agreement. On August 15, the ballots were counted and members overwhelmingly voted to accept the deal.

The new agreement includes wage increases for all classifications ranging from 19% to 21.67% over the next 4.25 years. Other improvements include a reduction in the number of hours required for a merit increase and an enhanced travel allowance.

Any members with questions are encouraged to contact the MGEU Resource Centre between 8 am and 6 pm, Monday through Friday, toll-free at 1-866-982-6438. NUPGE
