March 6 will focus on 'crimes against humanity' in Colombia

Join a rally, organize a vigil, or write an MP

Columbia - struggle for justice and peace Ottawa (28 Feb. 2008) - The National Union of Public and General Employees is pleased to support observances on March 6 marking "International homage to the victims of crimes against humanity in Colombia".

Colombia is considered the most dangerous place in the world for trade unionists. In addition, nearly four million poor farmers have been, and are being, violently removed
from their lands. Violations of human rights are widespread throughout the country.

Thousands will be demonstrating worldwide on March 6 in solidarity with the Colombian people.

The National Union is encouraging members to participate in a rally, or to organize a vigil, or write a letter to their MP, demanding that Canada pressure the Colombian government to take action to stop the violence in its country.

The National Union also hopes that people will use the event to urge the Harper government to abandon negotiations aimed at creating a free trade agreement with Colombia. NUPGE
