Preparing candidates for B.C.'s May 12 provincial election - 'The school will provide a combination of education, campaign team experiences and hands-on exercises.'
Harrison Hot Springs (24 Feb. 2009) - The British Columbia Federation of Labour will hold an election campaign school for women March 21-24 to help interested candidates prepare for the province's May 12 election.
"The school will bring together the labour movement and progressive women candidates to offer women of all experience levels the opportunity to learn about ways to participate in election campaigns, from a basic campaign overview, to advanced campaign training and candidate school," the federation says.
"The school will provide a combination of education, campaign team experiences and hands-on exercises to give participants information on how a campaign is run, the possibilities for involvement and some of the key leadership positions that are needed."
The weekend is designed for activists ready to commit to participation in the May election. However, the skills acquired during the school apply to any political campaign.
Participants will be assigned to a workshop group based on their election campaign experience.
The Health Sciences Association of B.C. (HSABC/NUPGE) is offering financial support, including wage replacement, for a limited number of applicants to attend this school. Preference will be given to members who:
(1) have not attended a campaign school in the last three years; and
(2) who have participated in political, labour, community or professional activities.
Information about the school and registration forms are available. Click here. Contact Carol Riviere at the HSABC office for further information. The application deadline is March 5.
