NUPGE launches economic fightback resource

Web resource helps Canadians demand that the federal government act to improve Employment Insurance, pension and retirement security as well as stop banks from gouging consumers.

Ottawa (24 March 2009) - The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) is encouraging all Canadians to get involved in the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) economic fightback campaign. To help people to get involved NUPGE has launched a web resource - click here.

"The current economic crisis has left many Canadians feeling hopeless - powerless. We want to provide the resources for them to overcome those feelings and get engaged," says national president James Clancy.

"They are not alone. Working together we can make a real difference. Now's the time to build a strong economy that works for all of us."

The CLC campaign was launched recently with protests in the badly hit communities of Hamilton and Belleville, Ontario. A national campaign of protests is being planned in cities and towns across Canada.

The web resource also provides a quick and easy way for Canadians to write their member of parliament and the Prime Minister to demand action.

"For too long corporations have been allowed almost free reign in the economy and they have really done a lot of damage. It is time for all Canadians to demand both a strong economy and a fair society," explained Clancy.
