Frontline public sector workers are urging Canada's first ministers to make funding for public services and social programs a priority in the federal economic stimulus package.
Ottawa (14 Jan. 2009) - As Canada’s first ministers prepare to meet in Ottawa, frontline workers in health care, community-based social services and the justice system are urging the leaders to increase funding for public services and social programs as a way to stabilize the economy and protect vulnerable families from the worst of a recession.
The prime minister is meeting with Canada's premiers and territorial leaders in Ottawa on January 16 to discuss the economic crisis. The federal government will table a budget on January 27 and it is expected to include a significant economic stimulus package.
