BCIT support staff strike Monday

BCGEU/NUPGE support staff members at BCIT picket again; vocational instructors take strike vote Monday.

Vancouver (19 Nov. 2012) - B.C. Institute of Technology (BCIT) will be shut down by pickets on Monday, November 19.

BCIT support staff are striking all the North series buildings (NW and NE), and SE1 from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. BCIT satellite campuses will also be struck on Monday.

Members of the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU/NUPGE) will be picketing along Willingdon Avenue from the north entrance to parking lot 16 to Canada Way, along Canada Way to Beta – but not on Beta until south of the first driveway into NE9.

In joint-strike action, the south side of the Burnaby campus is being struck Monday by the BCIT Faculty and Staff Association.

Support staff members who work on the Burnaby Campus are to report to Beta Avenue for their assigned shifts and picketing instructions. Members may park in Lot 7, but must walk around the campus to get to Beta Avenue.

Support Staff members who work at the Downtown Campus (DTC), Centre for Applied Research and Innovation (CARI), BCIT Marine Campus (BMC) and Aerospace Technology Centre (ATC) are to report to the main entrance of each campus for their assigned shift and picketing instructions.

In additon, BCGEU/NUPGE members working as vocational instructors will be taking a strike vote on November 19. Members are to report to the Shriners Gizeh Temple, located at 3550 Wayburne Drive, at 8:00 a.m. for an information meeting and to take a strike vote. The strike vote takes place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
