Great solidarity at George Brown College student rally

Students gathered on November 15 to show solidarity with striking OPSEU/NUPGE college academic workers.

Toronto (16 Nov. 2017) — College faculty from the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) local 556 were overwhelmed by the energy and inspiring solidarity at the student solidarity rally held on November 15. The students organized the rally to support the striking workers at George Brown College.

The message to the college presidents, the College Employer Council, and Minister Deb Mathews was that faculty are voting NO on the forced contract offer. Students made it clear that they believe it’s time for Council to get back to the bargaining table, and negotiate a contract that delivers fairness, good jobs, and quality education for half a million college students across Ontario.

The strike has entered its fifth week. Voting on the employer's forced offer concludes today.
