National Union roundtable benefits from experts and celebrity participation

A roundtable on post-traumatic stress disorder being held in Ottawa is benefiting from the participation of Vince Savoia and actor Enrico Colantoni.

Ottawa (06 Nov. 2015) — A roundtable on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) being held by the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) on November 9–10 in Ottawa will benefit from presentations by a renown expert in the field and a television personality.

Attending the roundtable will be NUPGE Component Health and Safety experts and activists from across Canada including an number of emergency workers and first responders.

Television star is highlighting plight of injured heroes

Enrico Colantoni, the star of hit TV shows Flashpoint and Veronica Mars, will be in Ottawa to speak to NUPGE members about the ravages of PTSD.

Colantoni is the national spokesperson for the Tema Conter Memorial Trust, Canada's leading provider of peer support, family assistance, and training for our public safety and military personnel dealing with operational stress and PTSD.

"When simply doing their jobs means sustaining a life-altering trauma themselves, we owe our emergency workers and military personnel the respect and the dignity of first-rate care, understanding and support," says Colantoni.

Internationally recognized expert

Also at the roundtable will be Vince Savoia, a former paramedic who founded The Tema Conter Memorial Trust following his own struggles with PTSD. Savoia is now a foremost expert in psychological first aid training for public safety personnel.

The goal of the roundtable is to identify best practices in the diagnosis and treatment of PTSD and to coordinate action to ensure those practices are put in place across the country.
