Toronto rally Nov. 30 to back labour rights in Mexico

'There is a clear goal of eliminating independent trade unions in Mexico.... Let’s stand in support of all independent Mexican unions.'

Toronto (25 Nov. 2010) - The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) is urging members to attend a rally Nov. 30 in Toronto to support Labour Rights in Mexico.

The rally will take place between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Nov. 30 at 380 University Ave. in downtown Toronto (just south of Dundas).

"The Mexican Government, together with large corporations such as Grupo Mexico, is increasingly attacking independent trade unions and violating workers’ rights," organizers say.

"There is a clear goal of eliminating independent trade unions in Mexico. Mexican Ambassador Julian Ventura and Canadian Ambassador Guillermo Rishchynski are speaking at the University Club of Toronto. Let’s stand in support of all independent Mexican unions. Tell the Mexican and Canadian Ambassadors to respect labour rights in Mexico!"
